Associate / Senior Associate for Ecosystem Trust & Safety

IST is hiring an Associate (or Senior Associate) for Ecosystem Trust & Safety to help design and lead the organization’s Applied Trust & Safety Initiative.

IST is hiring an Associate (or Senior Associate) for Ecosystem Trust & Safety to help design and lead the organization’s Applied Trust & Safety Initiative, a growing effort that partners with the Trust & Safety community and other stakeholders to develop and incubate solutions to ecosystem-wide challenges. In this role, you will work closely with the Chief Trust Officer and the Senior Vice President for Special Projects to set the Initiative’s strategy and scope. You will have internal and external-facing responsibilities in IST’s Trust and Safety work, including building and maintaining strong relationships with technologists, policymakers, researchers, funders, and other key IST and project stakeholders. You will represent IST at relevant IST-hosted events, conferences, professional associations, and other venues.


  • Your primary day-to-day responsibility will be to develop and manage projects and associated elements of your program portfolio. This can include convening stakeholder groups to identify and advance solutions to selected topics; hosting public and private webinars to build communities and raise awareness; and organizing large public convenings.
  • As an Associate (or Senior Associate), you will have the opportunity to collaborate internally and externally to deliver outstanding products, events, and ideas. Working with other key staff across IST, you will manage multiple independent streams of work including establishing and maintaining budgets; setting communications strategies; and being responsible for monitoring progress toward project completion.
  • Your responsibilities may periodically include cross-cutting and other duties outside specific projects.


While this role may be performed remotely from anywhere within the United States, physical presence within the San Francisco Bay Area or Washington, DC is preferred. IST has established a physical office in downtown Washington, DC and may require any incumbent within the National Capital Region to work from that office part time. For incumbent’s residing in the Bay Area, IST may establish a physical office within the area and, if so established, may require any incumbent residing in the area to work from that office part time.


  • Dynamic leader and creative thinker who excels in strategic planning, thrives in ambiguous situations requiring adaptability, and effectively manages multiple concurrent projects with keen attention to detail.
  • At least 2-3 years’ (Associate) / 3-4 years’ (Senior Associate) managerial and/or leadership experience in platform or provider Trust & Safety functions, other technology sectors, or a related policy field, including experience running a portfolio of major projects and leading teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Graduate work preferred).
  • Must be legally able to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Compensation and benefits*

The expected annual base salary range for this role is $65,000 – $80,000.

Compensation is dependent on experience and is based on IST’s good faith estimate for this position, in San Francisco, CA, as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay, exact job title and role will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including where you place on our internal performance ladders, which is based on factors including past work experience, relevant education, and performance on our interviews or in a work trial.
