The Institute for Security and Technology is looking for a Cyber Associate to support our cyber portfolio with project management, writing, and research on the latest cyber issues
Work Description
IST has a diverse cyber portfolio that prioritizes creating actionable solutions and working with technical practitioners to inform our work. Our goal as a nonprofit is to bridge the gap between cybersecurity experts and government agencies to improve collaboration and progress in the cyber ecosystem.
We are looking for a Cyber Associate who can engage with technology topics on a granular level, and can communicate and write for a policy audience. The day-to-day would include managing ongoing initiatives, writing blogs and publications, contributing supporting research to a variety of cyber-focused projects, and some project management and scheduling work.
This position will also be involved in continuing efforts from the Ransomware Task Force, an incredibly successful coalition that IST facilitated which recently published an 81-page report advising both industry and governments to take steps to curb the rise of ransomware. IST also works across the technology spectrum, with initiatives spanning BGP routing, botnets, AI and automation and data privacy.
Residence in the San Francisco Bay Area is preferred.
Qualifications
Required
- 3-5 years working in politics, government, or industry working on technology or technology policy
- Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
- Interest in national security policy
- Strong writing and communications skills
Preferred
- General interest of emerging technology trends like cybersecurity, ML/AI techniques, democracy, human rights and security, or digital vulnerabilities
- Experience contributing to large publications
- Experience in national security and foreign affairs
- Ability to communicate technical topics to a non-technical audience
