Munish Walther-Puri is a seasoned security strategist and risk advisor, having worked on cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, geopolitics, supply chain, terrorism, and fraud.
Munish served as the first Director of Cyber Risk for New York City Cyber Command from 2019 to 2021, where he built and led the citywide program and team to identify, assess, and minimize cyber risk, including large scale and third party incidents. He was then appointed as the first Liaison Officer for Cyber Critical Services & Infrastructure from 2021 to 2022, facilitating a public-private partnership focused on the collective cyber defense of and joint incident response for critical infrastructure.
Most recently, he worked on third party cyber risk and software supply chain security at a supply chain risk management tech company, focusing on critical industries like telecommunications and semiconductors. In previous work, Munish has led analysis and intelligence for a dark web monitoring company, advised startups in corporate investigations, encrypted communications, and political risk, and consulted independently on applying technology and analytics to geopolitical analysis, forecasting, and open source intelligence analysis. He also spent time at a large American bank, working on the intersection of fraud, cyber investigations, and terrorism, and at a leading think tank, focused on nuclear policy and international security in Asia.
Munish is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, and Overseas Security Advisory Council. He is also an adjunct faculty member at IANS Research and at the Center for Global Affairs at New York University. His certifications include CISSP, GICSP, FAIR, and CTPRP. He was selected as a Yale Cyber Leadership Forum Fellow, is an ally for the #ShareTheMicInCyber, and an Eagle Scout.
