Sophia Mauro

Deputy Director for Strategic Communications

Sophia Mauro is the Deputy Director for Strategic Communications at the Institute for Security and Technology.

She is the recipient of a Master of Arts in Turkish Studies from Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkey as part of a Fulbright fellowship. She has experience in the public sector at the Department of State and Department of Education, as well as a background in communications gained at the Middle East Institute and Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service. Her current research interests include the exploitation of emerging technologies to accelerate democratic backsliding, EU and U.S. approaches to migration diplomacy, and Turkey’s foreign policy strategies. Sophia graduated from Georgetown University with a B.S. in Foreign Service and a minor in Turkish.
