Mark Heller

MITRE

Mark Heller is a seasoned Cyber Security Engineer with over 25 years of experience leading datacenter and cyber security operations across diverse mission areas, including military operations, critical infrastructure communications, nuclear command and control, naval aviation, and military cyber operations planning. Currently serving as a Lead System and Cyber Security Engineer at The MITRE Corporation, Mark manages complex, high-impact projects, such as the Department of Energy’s Rural and Municipal Utility Cybersecurity initiative, where he leads a multi-discipline team in designing a deployable platform to enhance cybersecurity for electrical utilities supporting remote military installations.

Prior to his tenure at MITRE, Mark served in the United States Navy, where he held key roles such as Cyber Security Officer, Director of Operations, and Military Assistant Professor, contributing to advancements in cyber security, unmanned aerial systems, and military communications.

Mark holds two Master of Science degrees from the Naval Postgraduate School, one in Computer Science with a focus on Networking and Computer Security and another in Information Warfare Systems Engineering. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. Mark is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and holds multiple national information assurance certifications.
