Former Deputy Cybersecurity at UK Cabinet Office

Pete Cooper, MSc FRAeS is a recognised international leader with extensive experience in private and public sectors as well as military operations across multiple domains. Currently he advises at every scale from international, national and enterprise across multiple sectors and in 2023, was awarded “Cyber Citizen of the Year” at the UK National Cyber Awards.  Prior to this he was in the UK Cabinet Office, where he led the cyber transformation of the UK public sector by delivering the Government Cyber Security Strategy.  This also saw him leading on management of cyber incidents and vulnerabilities impacting government, cyber standards, assurance, policies and red teaming.

Across the private sector he has supported innovation and collaboration across multiple sectors, most notably in Aerospace where he has worked with everyone from large manufacturers, global industry bodies and the hacker and researcher community.  Alongside these efforts he also founded the Aerospace Village at DEFCON and the UK’s only student cyber strategy competition.

The first part of his career was in the UK military where he flew and instructed operational fast jets in the Royal Air Force before transferring to be one of the UK’s first Cyber Operations Officers at the vanguard of building National capability.  He has a Post Grad in Cyber Operations, a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Dept of War Studies King’s College London and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
