Sean Farrell is chief counsel for ransomware investigations at Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit. The mission of Sean’s team is to disrupt the actors and criminal ecosystems supporting ransomware through legal means, such as law enforcement referrals and civil lawsuits. Prior to joining Microsoft, Sean led investigative teams combatting fraud against AWS and the sale of counterfeit goods on the Amazon store. Sean began his career as a Presidential Management Fellow in the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division, before transitioning to the FBI’s Office of the General Counsel where he last served as founder and chief of the Cyber Law Unit.
