Testimony: Rising Threats: Ransomware Attacks and Ransom Payments, Enabled by Cryptocurrency

On June 7, 2022, IST Chief Strategy Officer Megan Stifel testified in front of the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs for the hearing entitled, "Rising Threats: Ransomware Attacks and Ransom Payments, Enabled by Cryptocurrency."

“The limited operational collaboration and scale of information-sharing among and between government agencies and private industry partners has inhibited cooperation on disruptive actions against criminals. While significant progress has been made over the past year, governments still need to do more to support the private sector. In particular, the lack of comprehensive information about ransomware attacks continues to frustrate the private sector’s ability to protect itself, inform policy development, and help take collective action against ransomware actors.”

On June 7, 2022, IST Chief Strategy Officer Megan Stifel testified in front of the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs for the hearing entitled, “Rising Threats: Ransomware Attacks and Ransom Payments, Enabled by Cryptocurrency.” In her testimony, she highlighted the essential role of information sharing in order to effectively combat ransomware, described recent progress through policy and legislation, and called on Congress to keep up the momentum, including by encouraging voluntary action.
