IST advances Applied Trust and Safety work in partnership with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation

December 20, 2022 — As the Institute for Security and Technology scales up its work in the field of Applied Trust and Safety, we are thrilled to work in partnership with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation (PJMF), a global, 21st century philanthropy focused on bridging the frontiers of artificial intelligence, data science, and social impact.

“We at IST are incredibly excited to partner with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation in our efforts to support the evolution and adaptation of organizations’ trust and safety practices. As technology increasingly moderates our lives, our collective future depends on appropriately managing the unique threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences of these digital services. This partnership with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation will enable us to begin to tackle these challenges and help drive solutions,” said Chief Strategy Officer Megan Stifel.

“IST’s innovative work to anticipate and address emerging global security threats is critical to protect and sustain a technology-enabled democratic future for humanity. These efforts require deep partnership between governments and civil society and we’re delighted to support IST’s leadership on these topics,” said Patrick J. McGovern Foundation President Vilas Dhar.

IST’s work will consider the following thematic areas:

  1. Privacy and Security
  2. Technology and Tools
  3. Talent
  4. Best Practices
  5. Policy and Regulation

Whether technology is enabling social discourse, facilitating economic participation, re-imagining the workforce, or supporting supply chains, we believe that it is crucial for organizations’ Trust and Safety teams to prioritize privacy and security, employ the necessary technology, recruit the right talent, adopt normative best practices, and understand the regulatory environment. Through our partnership with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, we are excited to move forward on a robust effort to work with partners and undertake these efforts.
