The Russian AI sector had, before the war, made progress on civilian and military AI. Now it faces a sharp loss of talent and investment, as large tech firms are leaving Russia, and crippling sanctions, especially on advanced hardware. While the Russian military and government were eager to talk about the potential for commercial and military AI in the lead up to the war, the AI buzz in Russia has since gone quiet.
