Jason Kikta

Adjunct Senior Technical Advisor

Jason Kikta has over 25 years of experience in cybersecurity operations, policy, and technology leadership. He currently serves as Chief Technology Officer at Automox, an endpoint management and security platform. He is an adjunct lecturer at the Alperovitch Institute for Cybersecurity Studies at Johns Hopkins SAIS, where he teaches a graduate course on cyberspace and intelligence, and an adjunct senior technical advisor to the Institute for Security and Technology, where he contributes expertise on cyberspace policy, AI, and ransomware.


Jason spent seven years at US Cyber Command’s Cyber National Mission Force, where he was a founding member of the defensive cyberspace mission and developed initial operating concepts for its hunt and incident response teams. He founded the command’s private sector partnership program, collaborating with hundreds of international organizations to develop visibility on state-sponsored and ransomware threats. He served as Defensive Director for the 2018 and 2020 election security efforts, developed the Hunt Forward program for identifying and evicting adversaries from foreign networks, and created the public disclosure program that shifted the US Government’s approach to releasing threat intelligence. He also served as a strategic threat consultant to Twitter, advising on threats to the global enterprise, platform, and supply chain.

Jason retired after over 23 years in the US Marine Corps as a communications officer and an enlisted IT technician. He deployed twice to Afghanistan, including during the major force drawdown where he managed telecommunications security across the retrograde of Marine Corps equipment. He deployed to the Mediterranean and Middle East with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and supported hurricane relief operations in the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Key West following Hurricanes Irma and Maria. He served with the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force, the Marine Corps’ dedicated CBRNE consequence management unit, where he led standby emergency response forces for multiple National Special Security Events including a Presidential Inauguration and G-20 Summit.
