Maximilian Hoell is a Senior Nuclear Program Associate at Longview Philanthropy, where he focuses on reducing catastrophic and existential risks from nuclear weapons. His career spans government, academia, and think tanks. Before joining Longview, Max served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he conducted research on U.S. extended nuclear deterrence, the two-peer problem, and second centers of decisionmaking. He also served as Senior Policy Fellow at the European Leadership Network, leading the organization’s portfolios on the so-called P5 process and emerging technologies. Max has also held academic positions at Université Paris Dauphine – PSL, London campus, and Northeastern University London.
Max earned a PhD in International Relations from University College London, a Postgraduate Diploma in International Nuclear Law from the University of Montpellier, an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics, and a BA in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford.
