Senior Vice President for Special Projects

Eric Davis serves as Senior Vice President for Special Projects to Institute for Security and Technology (IST). Eric has over two decades of experience developing programs, policies, products, and teams that safeguard consumers and platforms, tackling critical issues in security, trust & safety, and privacy. Prior to IST, Eric was a consultant and advisor to civic and private sector organizations, often invited to speak on emerging security, trust & safety, and privacy technology topics such as elections integrity and artificial intelligence. He is a founding advisor to the Trust & Safety Professional Association, and as a member of the Integrity Institute, co-authored two best practices guides for companies developing Elections Integrity Programs. Eric is a co-inventor of five security-related patents. 

Eric’s past experience includes his role as former Chief Privacy and Policy Officer and global trust & safety lead at Bigo, a live streaming and short-form video social media platform, supporting over 300 million users globally. Prior to Bigo, he was Senior Director for Product Management at NortonLifelock, Symantec’s consumer business unit, prototyping new consumer products and leading product strategy to address the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other privacy regulations globally. Before his time at Symantec, Eric spent 13 years at Google, where he founded Google’s first Trust & Safety team, Anti-Malvertising program, and the Android Security Operations and Intel team in addition to his other product policy and public policy leadership roles. Earlier in his career, he was eBay’s charter International Product Manager for Trust & Safety.

Eric has a Bachelor’s in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley, a certificate in Advanced Program Management from Stanford University, and is an IAPP-certified Information Privacy Manager. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife, their two children, and two dogs. He enjoys mountain biking, travel, video games, and reading, but not all at the same time.
