This week marks 5 years since the launch of the Ransomware Task Force. It’s also the official U.S. launch of Anja Shortland’s book, Dark Screens: Hackers and Heroes in the Shadowy World of Ransomware.
In researching the shadowy world of ransomware, and the public-private sector efforts to tackle it, Anja interviewed RTF Co-Chairs Megan Stifel, Jen Ellis, Michael Phillips, and Michael Daniel.
To kick off the event, we’ll hear from Anja for an introduction to her new book, which investigates the inner workings of the criminal gangs that target hospitals, public infrastructure, and vulnerable companies, as well as the organizations and individuals trying to stop them.
Then, Anja will re-unite with the RTF Co-Chairs who first provided material for her book to revisit some of the questions she first asked years ago, and to look ahead to the future. They’ll discuss just how far we’ve come in tackling ransomware, the current status of efforts to combat ransomware worldwide, and what’s next. Should ransomware attacks be rebranded as “data extortion attacks”? Where do we stand on ransom payment bans? And is the “Mythos moment” going to significantly alter the cybercrime landscape?
