Michaela Lee currently serves as the acting Chief Cyber Officer for New York State. In this role, she oversees cybersecurity operations across New York and works closely with other members of the Governor’s Office, state agencies, local governments, and federal partners to ensure the security and resilience of the state’s critical infrastructure. Before joining New York, Michaela was the Director for Strategy and Research at the White House Office of the National Cyber Director, helping develop and implement the National Cybersecurity Strategy and leading special projects on technology and democracy. Previously, she served as a Tech and Human Rights Manager at BSR, where she covered responsible AI, privacy, and end-to-end encryption. Michaela is a Non-Resident Fellow with the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy & Technology and a term member at the Council on Foreign Relations. She received a bachelor’s degree from UC Davis and a Master of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.
