IST Contributes to the International Counter Ransomware Initiative Summit for the Fourth Consecutive Year: Exercises, Workshops, and Private Sector Advisory Panel
Over the last four years, IST has been a critical partner to the International Counter Ransomware Initiative's coalition of governments and other key partners in their effort to coordinate global actions against ransomware. This October, IST’s Steve Kelly, Elizabeth Vish, and Gigi Flores Bustamante joined the CRI’s fifth summit in Singapore to deliver IST’s research on public-private partnerships to combat cybercrime.

Giving Tuesday 2025: IST’s Impact
Every day, the work we do at IST makes a difference, from driving Congress to consider new approaches to intractable problems, to bringing national security leaders together to ensure they consider the existential threat of AI, to arming K-12 schools with the tools they need to defend against ransomware. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, this is only possible because of the generous support of our partners and donors.

Putting Research into Policy Action: IST and the Korea Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute Join Forces to Tackle AI Risk
By convening developers, deployers, national security professionals, and policymakers, IST's AI Risk Reduction Initiative maps both the opportunities and risks of frontier AI and designs corresponding mitigation strategies. A recent collaboration between IST and the Korea AI Safety Institute (AISI) exemplifies how international cooperation can advance our understanding of AI risks across multiple domains.

Negotiating Stability: Reflections on CSIS’ Future Arms Control Experts (FACE) Program
IST Senior Associate for Nuclear Policy Brandon Cortino spent the last year as a fellow in the Center for Strategic and International Studies FACE cohort, which aims to train the next generation of arms control negotiators. He shares lessons learned from his study of the 2002 Moscow Treaty signed by Presidents Bush and Putin. “It is clear future treaties must consider the myriad threats posed by poor AI integration into nuclear command, control, and communications, and great powers must find common ground and rally against destabilizing technologies,” he writes.
